Contemporary Music Theatre

On the evening of Sunday the 2nd of March I went with my friend Lukas Stasevskij and looked at a contemporary music theatre (UMT – Uuden musiikkiteaterin ilta). The concept was four short and very different versions of Sophocles’ Antigone, directed and performed by students from the Theatre Academy Helsinki. A different composer wrote the music to every play. Two of the composers, Turkka Inkilä and Albert Lenkiewicz are students at the Sibelius Academy and the other two, Henri Sokka and Roope Mäenpää, study with me (at Tampere University of Applied Sciences).

It was very fascinating to see incredibly different directors works about the same theme. And moreover; the students were all very experimental, so it was very interesting and I can warmly recommend the show to anyone who is up for something new!

After the theatre we discussed with Lukas the timetables for the up coming cello-sonata “Borrelia”. It should be ready by the end of the summer (if everything goes like planned) and Lukas is planning on premiering it next autumn together with his pianist brother Justas Stasevskij. I’m really excited about this up-coming project!
